Local foundation kicks its fundraising into high gear
The name ‘Tshisusu’ is derived from the Tshivenda word for ‘butterfly’, and they believe in transforming through the principals of evolving and rebuilding future leaders.
The Tshisusu Foundation NPO continues its mission to uplift those who face poverty and economic hardships.
Tshisusu, established in Parkdene in 2018, was inspired by the biblical principles of James 1: 27, Psalms 68:5 and Job 29:12.
The name ‘Tshisusu’ is derived from the Tshivenda word for ‘butterfly’, and they believe in transforming lives through the principles of evolving and rebuilding future leaders.
The foundation manages various initiatives, including a soup kitchen, training programmes for volunteers and community members, distributing food hampers, and clean-ups in Boksburg.
According to Arveen Singh, ambassador of the foundation, their goal is to meet the basic needs of safety, nutrition, primary healthcare and clothing for the underprivileged.
Singh said that other initiatives that the foundation is proud of include their winter drive, stationery and food hamper drive among other projects.
“We have 12 soup kitchens in Ekurhuleni, including Boksburg, Benoni, Germiston and Springs,” he said.
The ambassador said the organisation’s big vision is to make a difference on an international level, and not just South Africa.
“All donations, such as stationery, clothing and non-perishable food items are welcome. We’ll appreciate anything that can help us make a difference.”
Singh added the foundation issues Section 18A tax certificates.

Win a car
The Tshisusu Foundation is running a fundraising campaign where one lucky winner can walk away with a brand new Suzuki Swift, which is on display at the East Rand Mall (entrance 4).
All you have to do is purchase your ticket from Quicket for R100.
No participants under the age of 18 are allowed to enter and a valid ID and driver’s licence are required.
Each ticket gives you a chance to win the car, which was donated to the foundation by an anonymous donor.
Singh said the foundation hopes to sell 10 000 tickets.
Community members can enter until November 11, and the draw will take place at the mall on November 20.
All proceeds from the ticket sales will go directly towards the foundation’s feeding and development programmes.
Singh thanked Suzuki Boksburg as well as the East Rand Mall for giving the foundation a free space to display the vehicle.
He urged all organisations, including NPOs and schools, to get involved and purchase a ticket.
Barnyard fundraiser
In another initiative to raise funds, the foundation is holding a fundraiser at the Barnyard Theatre at Emperors Palace on October 31 with the Forever Legends 1960s, 1980s, 1990s and SA Legends show.
