Koppies’ history enthralls hikers
Book a guided tour (about 3km) on 079 532 0083 at R100 for adults and R50 for under 18s.
Melville Koppies was busy on October 27 with a large group of mountain club hikers, the once-a-month 8km hikers and others who just wanted to explore alone.
“We’re always keen to accommodate hikers’ wishes, so at the halfway mark, the 8km hiking group split,” explained Jenny Grice, a Koppies volunteer.
“One group soldiered on to complete their 8km task. Those intrigued by the Koppies’ historical, geological and natural attractions were guided on a shorter educational route.”
The Melville Koppies are open to the public on Sundays from 08:00 to 11.30.
Choose from self-guided options: a 5km trail, a 3km heritage trail and the scavenger hunt for those with exploring minds.
The cost is R90 for adults and R50 for under 18s.
