Aftermath of road rage incident leaves couple with little choice but to ask for help
Sheree sustained minor injuries to her legs and Chanelle broke her left arm in the incident.

Sheree Buitendach (33) and her wife Chanelle (29), of Boksburg South, have started a Back-a-Buddy account as the road rage incident they were involved in last year continues to affect them, especially financially.
On April 30, they were travelling together on their scooter when a man driving a red Hyundai Atos, who they say skipped a red traffic light, became enraged when Sheree hooted at him.
The driver knocked them off their scooter at the intersection of North Rand and Herman Pieters roads. Sheree suffered minor injuries to her legs, but Chanelle broke her left arm and underwent surgery on May 3.
In September, their worst fears were confirmed when the doctors told them that Chanelle’s arm was not healing as expected.
“We received the news we dreaded – the bone was still not healing properly, and the plate was not made to keep a broken arm intact forever,” said Sheree, adding the doctor advised another operation would be necessary.
This operation involved a bone graft, removing a piece of bone from Chanelle’s thigh and inserting it into her arm.
This meant Chanelle would require another lengthy recovery period, and the couple was forced to take more time off work.
“We’ve already been to the Labour Department to claim UIF, but we’ve received nothing.”
The couple, both surveillance officers, found themselves struggling to keep afloat financially during this difficult time.
“We were barely keeping our heads above water. Thankfully, we received some help from family and friends, but it’s still been incredibly hard.
“Furthermore, our second vehicle, which was our only other form of transport, broke down and needs repairs too. It’s overwhelming. We’re caught in a situation where we can’t seem to fix everything at once, and we feel torn between paying for necessary repairs or getting the medical treatment Chanelle needs,” said Sheree.
Adding to their emotional distress, Sheree said the driver responsible for the accident is still at large.
“We’ve been told the police will follow up on any leads, but we’re not holding our breath.”
