Christmas comes early for Boksburg SPCA

In a year marked by pleas for pet food and supplies, this community-driven donation brought hope, warmth, and full bellies to the society's furry friends.

Tails wagged and purrs echoed with joy at Boksburg SPCA as an early Christmas miracle arrived courtesy of a donation from the Van Dyk Park Community Patrolling Initiative (CPI).

A large quantity of dog and cat food was donated, along with much-needed items such as blankets, collars and treats. This donation comes in a year when the society has had to make repeated appeals for food to care for its animals.

According to Alida Jordaan, secretary of the CPI, this initiative was their way of trying to help and make a difference.

“I thought that in the spirit of the CPI’s work in the community, to uplift and stay positive, it would be a great idea to launch a project to collect food for the SPCA. The Boksburg SPCA is dependent on donations. We posted the idea on a few community groups and were amazed by the positive response from the public.

“I believe every community should support the SPCA. As animal lovers, we all have a role to play. We also hope to encourage other communities to do the same because the SPCA relies heavily on public support,” said Jordaan.

Jordaan also praised Boksburg SPCA field officer Jabu Manchidi for his dedication to the animals.

“I’ve personally worked with Jabu to try to catch stray dogs. At one point, a large black dog was living in a park that we tried to rescue for weeks. We would leave food for him, and he would eat it, but he wouldn’t let anyone come near him. Jabu never gave up, and eventually he managed to rescue the dog. That’s the kind of work he does, and we deeply appreciate it.”

Boksburg SPCA Manager Vicky Finnemore expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved.

“The society is incredibly grateful for the Van Dyk Park community’s generosity and support in helping us care for so many animals in need. Their donation will truly make a difference in the lives of many animals,” said Finnemore.
