A Benoni resident has launched Lekker Lights, a free, community-driven website where families can find and share Christmas light displays across Benoni and South Africa.

Homeowners can list their decorated houses for free, adding photos, viewing times, parking information, and estate/gate rules, while visitors can browse an interactive map, filter for child-friendly or walk-through displays, and even plan a full lights tour route to share with friends and family.

The founder, Chintan Patel, said Lekker Lights was created to help families in Benoni – and across South Africa – find and share Christmas light displays this festive season.

“The idea was born out of a simple tradition: driving around the neighbourhood with family and friends, trying to spot the “good” houses with beautiful lights, often by word of mouth or pure luck. Lekker Lights turns that tradition into something easier, safer and more inclusive by putting all participating displays onto one central website.”

The site is free, but donations are welcome to help cover hosting and keep the project running in future festive seasons.
