SPCA jubilant as it exceeds Christmas Cheer Fund target
Community kindness delivered a major boost to animals in need as the Boksburg SPCA raised nearly R140 000 through its Christmas Cheer Fund.
At a time when many shelters are stretched to their limits, the Boksburg SPCA has been given a powerful boost of festive cheer, exceeding its Christmas Cheer Fund target and raising an impressive R138 886 for animals in need.
Launched on November 1 with a goal of R100 000, the annual festive campaign helps the SPCA navigate one of its busiest and most demanding periods, when lost, abandoned and surrendered animals place immense pressure on already full kennels.
This year’s total not only surpassed the target but also exceeded last year’s figure of R119 015, despite rising operational costs and growing demand.
Donations of all amounts streamed in, from R100 to R50 000.

“Thank you to everyone who donated to our Christmas Cheer Fund. We truly appreciate the community’s continued support.
“Over the years, this initiative has helped us upgrade our facilities and support important projects,” said SPCA secretary Sue Beadon.
Funds raised will be used for critical needs, including the purchase of two new spay sets for the SPCA clinic, the installation of a solar system to offset escalating electricity costs, enrichment items for the new cattery, and much-needed dry and wet food for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. A portion will also be allocated to an outreach sterilisation and treatment fund to assist animals in underprivileged communities.

As the SPCA steps into 2026, Beadon said the need for support remains ongoing. “Please help us keep tails wagging and bowls full by supporting us through donations, volunteering, or simply sharing our cause.”
