Jars of Hope change lives

The learners were happy to help out in their communities.

Thirty RCL learners from Sunward High Performance School distributed 67 Jars of Hope in their communities for Mandela Day (July 18).

Their jars comprised soup mix, lentils, macaroni, soup powder and stock cubes.

Kamohelo Mahlangu added ingredients to her Jar of Hope.

Bianka Grobler, a teacher at the school, said the learners wanted to spread the spirit of ubuntu.

“The learners believe it is crucial to look after their communities because their communities shaped them.

“Last year, our RCL learners visited the Elsburg Police Station. They replaced signage and gave the officers on duty appreciation packs.

“This year, they did something completely different by handing out the Jars of Hope,” said Grobler.

How to make a Jar of Hope to feed four people (put ingredients into an empty coffee jar or other suitable glass jars):
1/2 cup of rice
1/2 cup soup mix
1/2 cup lentils
1 unwrapped stock cube
1 packet of soup powder
Add 2.5l boiling water to the ingredients, stir well and enjoy.
