BCC chairperson named Player of World Indoor Masters World Cup
South Africa, which was captained by Forbes for the umpteenth time, finished as runners-up to Australia, who have won the tournament since its inception.
Boksburg Cricket Club chairperson Bruce Forbes (52) was named Player of the Series (PS) following an impressive run at the World Indoor Masters World Cup that recently took place at the Montague Arena in Cape Town.
The PS award is based on statistics throughout the competition.
The tournament, like most world cups, is held every four years and the last edition was held in the United Kingdom.
In Cape Town, South Africa and Australia were joined by England, New Zealand and a South Africa B side for the right to be named world champion.
Commenting on winning the prestigious accolade, Forbes said: “I was up against some very talented players from around the world who had over the years won this same award.
“I had put in the hard yards during the build-up in terms of preparation, so I was prepared. It was just executing it I suppose and luckily it went my way.”
On his standout takeaway from the competition, the country’s skipper continued: “Having the opportunity to play any game at an international level at my age at a masters level gives you the opportunity to stay healthy, compete and still believe nothing is impossible.
“It’s amazing that every four years you meet and make friends with players from all over the world, friendships are formed that remain for years to come; albeit the competition is tough on the court, off the court is really what the masters is all about,” he explained, before paying tribute to the champions.
“To beat the Australian side is tough. Man-for-man they’re really good and have no weak link, they were deserved winners.”
Team South Africa played a total of 12 games at the tournament. –
