The new Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) DStv Premiership will kick-off on October 24.
This league’s restart will be preceded by the MTN8 knockout competition which will signal the restart of the brand new season on October 17.
The PSL had initially eyed an October 9 resumption of top-flight football before the game’s global governing body declared this week international week (country versus country football).
PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza added that the finalisation of the 2020/21 season fixtures were subject to government approval, with the coronavirus, which forced the remainder of last season to be played in the ‘bubble’, still lingering.
The PSL boss said they are waiting for instructions from the government on which conditions the new season will be played under.
Meanwhile, there will be no Telkom Knockout competition in the new season after the telecommunications giant pulled the plug on its sponsorship to the PSL due to the financial strains the pandemic has caused.
Telkom followed in the footsteps of Absa, which too ended its partnership with the PSL following the end of last season.
Telkom’s withdrawal put an end to a 13-year partnership with the country’s top-flight football – the company had replaced Coca-Cola as sponsors for the knockout competition which was known as the Coca-Cola Cup.
