‘9mm’ set for bare-knuckle debut

The MMA fighter said his preparation for the bout is on track.

The gloves are coming off as Van Dyk Park’s Robert ‘9mm’ Swanepoel is gearing up for his first bare-knuckle boxing fight.

Swanepoel will go up against Stefan ‘The Beseeker’ Diedericks in a wild-west Titan Bear Knuckle welterweight bout at the Italian Club in Bedfordview on April 5.

‘9mm’ usually fights in the EFC but explained he wanted to get involved with bare-knuckle fighting when it came to South Africa.

“I believe it is the ultimate form of fighting and better for my fighting style,” said Swanepoel, whose pro-MMA record is 2-9-0.

Ahead of the match, Swanepoel said his preparation for the fight is going smoothly.

It is, however, an adjustment for him to get ready for a bare-knuckle fight instead of an EFC fight.

“In this fight, I do not have to wrestle, and only focus on boxing.”

‘9mm’ explained Tiny Strauss from Apex South was still his trainer.

His message to his opponent is: “He must be ready because this fight should have happened a long time ago. I cannot wait to get into the ring with him.”

For Swanepoel, however, his EFC days are not over yet and his next fight should be in the middle of the year.
