CBC Crusaders secures win over Bedfordview Poly’s

CBC Crusaders’ Pieter Booysen helped steer his team to victory over the Bedfordview Poly’s in their Eastern Storm Veterans League match at Christian Brothers’ College on July 6.

The Crusaders won the toss and elected to bat first in the 30-over neighbourhood clash.

They posted a formidable 226 for 5 in their 30 overs, with Booysen leading the charge. He smashed 102 runs off 84 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes, before retiring hurt due to injury. He finished with an impressive strike rate of 121.43.

Booysen was well supported by Willie Bernhart, who scored 51 off 63 balls, hitting five boundaries at a strike rate of 80.95.

For Poly’s, Gavin Dean claimed 2 wickets for 56 runs in his full six-over spell, although he conceded nine wides. Deon van Wyk and Jonathan Ahlschlager each took one wicket, finishing with figures of 1 for 21 (six overs) and 1 for 22 respectively.

Chasing 227 for victory, Poly’s suffered an early setback when Deon van Wyk was bowled by Robert Mutch for eight in the opening over.

Chris Rugg top-scored for Poly’s with 29 runs off 40 balls, which included two fours and a six.

However, the Crusaders’ bowling attack proved too strong. Mutch led the way with 4 wickets for 32 runs as Poly’s were bowled out for 155 in 29.1 overs, handing the Crusaders a convincing 71-run win.
