Beyers Park EFC fighter Billy ‘The Kid’ claims gold

It was a night of high drama at the World Sports Betting Arena as Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen rose above controversy to become the champion.

Beyers Park’s EFC fighter, Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen, flew the Boksburg flag high when he was crowned the EFC interim featherweight champion on October 9.

Oosthuizen dethroned the previously undefeated champion, Ken ‘The Takeover’ Sekeletu, in dramatic fashion at EFC 128, which delivered yet another unforgettable night of mixed martial arts at the World Sports Betting Arena.

The highly anticipated main event between Oosthuizen and Sekeletu ended in controversy when ‘The Takeover’ was disqualified in the third round for delivering repeated illegal strikes. Despite being in visible pain, Oosthuizen never backed down, showcasing remarkable grit and determination.

As the only fighter who successfully made weight and was thus eligible to win the title, Oosthuizen emerged as the rightful new interim champion after a tense and emotional showdown.

Overwhelmed by the moment, Oosthuizen was visibly emotional after the victory. When asked how it felt to become a champion after competing for 10 years, he said: “It feels good, and I’m going to defend it and show everyone again that I’m here to keep it. This is my belt.”

Speaking about the illegal shots to his spine and the back of his head, ‘The Kid’ added: “I could maybe still have carried on after the one to the back of the head, but the one on the spine really hurt.”

Before the main event, fans inside the arena experienced an electric moment as Boyd Allen and Vince Bembe stepped into the hexagon for a face-off ahead of their clash at EFC 129. The two will battle for the top contender spot in the featherweight division.

The winner of that bout will face the newly crowned interim champion in a future title showdown.
