Celebrating 75 years of compassion: Boksburg SPCA’s anniversary dinner a might to remember

The Boksburg SPCA recently marked a monumental milestone with a glittering anniversary dinner in honour of its 75th birthday.

Held at the elegant Summer Place, the evening was nothing short of spectacular – a heart-warming celebration of decades of dedication to animal welfare, generously supported by the local community.

Guests were taken on a nostalgic journey down memory lane by Boksburg SPCA committee member Ursula Spennato, who compiled and presented a touching video tribute featuring newspaper articles and photos published over the years. The visual showcase reminded everyone of the organisation’s unwavering commitment and the incredible legacy it has built through the decades.

It also shed light on the harsh realities faced daily by the SPCA – from cruelty cases to abandoned pets – but also highlighted stories of hope and resilience. One such tale was that of Oliver, fondly known as Oli, a dachshund-cross who was brought to the society in an oil-soaked bucket in 2021. Thanks to the care and dedication of the SPCA team, Oli is now thriving; a shining example of what compassion can achieve.

Another highlight of the event was a wonderful performance by Louise Tatiana who kept guests on their feet.

The evening offered more than just reflection. Guests were treated to a delicious dinner, lucky raffles, and an exciting auction of a beautifully stocked liquor wheelbarrow – a definite crowd-pleaser. Laughter, generosity and a shared love for animals filled the room.

Over R55 000 was raised on the night for the society- a remarkable show of support from the community.

The Boksburg SPCA extends heartfelt gratitude to every guest, sponsor, and donor who helped make this event such a success.

“Special thanks go to Ursula Spennato and her assistant Nadine Pohl, not only for their efforts in organising the evening but also for curating such a meaningful look back at the SPCA’s incredible journey,” said Boksburg SPCA secretary Sue Beadon.
