Dojo NWS Atlasville collects 33 medals at tournament

The Dojo New World Shotokan (NWS) Atlasville delivered outstanding performances at the recent fourth WUKF Gauteng League (The Dojo Cup Challenge) at Buffels Sports Centre in Pomona.

Led by seventh dan sensei Takis Chaniotakos, the club was represented by 22 students. They finished second overall, collecting 33 medals – eight gold, 16 silver and nine bronze – reflecting the depth of talent emerging from the club.

A total of 130 players from 10 clubs competed in 278 categories. Goshukan GKA of Boksburg were the overall winners, with Dojo NWS Atlasville second.

The Dojo NWS Benoni was third and Eagles Karate Club fourth, while Shotokan Sport Karate Alliance completed the top five.

“The comradeship between all clubs and participants and Senseis made the event successful and fruitful. I look forward to 2027 and making the league even more exciting and bigger,” said Chaniotakos.

Among some of the outstanding performers were Odin Smith and Enrique van Schalkwyk, who grabbed a pair of golds in kata and kumite each, while Jonathan van der Merwe and Mena Botros got a gold and silver in kata and kumite, respectively.

Tlhaho Sithole got a gold in kumite while Marrietta Botros, Yuval Reddy and Lincohn-Lee Ginder grabbed silvers in kata and kumite.
