Mother and daughter team determined to win
The pair to represent the Brakpan Herald in the Caxton Reynolds Race 2013 are a very energetic and determined mother and daughter team, from Dalview.

Arauna (47) and Bianca (19) Bezuidenhout will stand a chance to win a trip for four to Mauritius, sponsored by SA Reynolds Travel Centre, and could be the weekly winners of R5 000 Hirsch’s vouchers, to spend at any Hirsch’s store.
The Brakpan Herald has also chosen Mother’s Nest, in Brenthurst, to receive R10 000 in Hirsch’s vouchers, should the Brakpan team finish in first place in the final race, at the Boksburg Rugby Club, on September 21.
Mother’s Nest is a home for abused children.
Last night (Thursday) Arauna and Bianca met with sponsors and other participating teams from all over the East Rand, at a cocktail party held at Hirsch’s Boksburg.
They also completed a quick challenge in order to receive their first clue/lead.
The competition is based on “The Amazing Race” and will require participating teams to complete various tasks across the East Rand, which will be related to the East Rand’s heritage. Once they have completed their tasks they will submit proof of this to the Brakpan Herald.
The team to submit their proof first gets the most points, the team to come in second will receive fewer points, and so forth.
Teams will complete tasks over weekends for seven consecutive weeks, and the three teams with the most points by the end will go through to the finals, on September 21.
Leads will be published online every Friday afternoon, where participating teams can download their instructions on what to do that weekend.
Results of each round/week will also be published online, so keep an eye out for your favourite team on looklocal and follow their journey as the competition progresses.
We will also host a reader’s competition, which will kick off soon, so don’t lose any time in getting to know the East Rand, as there are wonderful prizes up for grabs for those who wish to get a piece of the action.
Details on the reader’s competition will be published online and in the paper.
Arauna, who describes herself as creative, patient, friendly and positive, has been living in Brakpan for the past 18 years.
She is the owner of a wellness centre and is very committed to her career.
“I absolutely love to keep busy and when I am not working I enjoy scrap-booking, mosaic and photography,” she said.
She also loves spending time with Bianca and her younger daughter, Dominique (13).
“We love to go on hiking trips and camping is great fun,” said Arauna
“I am looking forward to the race and I sincerely hope that we win.
“I owe my children a holiday and the trip to Mauritius would be a fantastic experience.”
Bianca is equally excited about the competition.
The 19-year-old student said she enjoys a challenge and sees her mother as the perfect partner.
Bianca describes herself as a creative person, and she loves the outdoors.
“I don’t like small spaces where I feel crammed in,” she said.
