Metro embraces traditional leaders
The Ekurhuleni Metro recently hosted an Indigenous Knowledge Systems Workshop, to highlight the role of traditional leaders and healers.

The workshop is part of the city’s Heritage Month commemoration and was aimed at bringing together traditional leaders with community and government leaders, in a dialogue on how to merge their roles within communities.
The contribution of traditional medicine in primary health care, the promotion of Africa and its indigenous heritage, the role of traditional leaders, as well as the art and quality of being a human being (Ubuntu) were some of the topics that were addressed during the workshop.
“The indigenous knowledge system is one that informs how African society functions and interacts with people and societies,” explained metro spokesperson Sam Modiba.
“It provides the founding motivator for people’s actions and the knowledge base for learning towards Africa’s sustainable development.”
