Parakeets stolen from garden

A Brakpan woman is desperate to be reunited with her beloved pet birds, after they were stolen from her garden over the weekend.

Ann Coetzee, a resident of Hastings Avenue, told the Herald that her two green ringneck parakeets, Kokkie and Pretty Boy, were stolen on Saturday, at about 2.30pm.

The pair, whom she has owned for several years, were taken along with their cage.

“They were in their cage and I put them outside, near the back door,” said Ann.

She left the house briefly and, upon her return, discovered that the birds were gone.

“On our way home we saw a young man walking along Wenden Avenue, with a cage of birds, but didn’t think anything of it,” said Ann.

The unusual theft was reported to officers in a patrolling police vehicle and Ann is anxious for her pets to be returned.

“They are like family,” she said.
