Top EMPD cop injured in crash

A high-ranking official from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department was injured in a car accident, in Brakpan, over the weekend.

Isaac Mapiyeye (53), EMPD deputy chief of police Auxilliary Services, is recovering at his Dalpark home, following the crash, which took place along Boekenhout Street, at about 2am on Saturday.

“Mapiyeye was en route home when, out of the blue, he noticed a vehicle without lights heading straight for his vehicle,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“In an attempt to avoid the unlit vehicle, he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the perimeter enclosure of a nearby residence.”

Mapiyeye sustained a fractured left arm, which necessitated an operation.

He was discharged from the Netcare Linmed Hospital, in Benoni, on Sunday.
