Long wait is almost over for Jasmin-Lee’s mother
Today (Monday) sees the start of the trail of the man who is accused of raping and murdering four-year-old Jasmin-Lee Pretorius.
Her uncle (the Herald is not naming him yet because he has not yet been asked to plead) is accused of raping and murdering the little girl on December 28, 2013.
He will stand trial in the Pretoria High Court from today.
It has been a very long wait for the child’s mother, Sasha-Lee Bam, who has been waiting patiently for her daughter’s murderer to hear his fate.
The Herald spoke to her over the weekend and she said she was very emotional, but hopeful that she would be able to handle the coming days.
“It has been almost two years and some days were very hectic,” said Sasha-Lee.
“Not a day goes by without me thinking of my precious little child.
“I am relieved that things are coming to an end now.”
Sasha-Lee also told the Herald that Jasmin-Lee’s father, Morné, has been very supportive during the past three months.
“Before, it was very difficult and almost impossible for us to talk about what happened,” she said.
“We have since managed to talk about the ordeal and, most importantly, about our child.
“This has been a great help and some sort of healing process for both of us.”
Asked if she will ever be able to forgive the man who took her child away from her, she said: “I know that I have to, but I am not sure if I will be able to.
“I will leave it in God’s hands,” said Sasha-Lee.
