“My son and I were just about to walk away from my vehicle when I saw two men approaching us,” said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her and her son’s identity.
“One of the men pointed a firearm at me and ordered me to look down. I complied with everything they said; I was scared they would hurt us.”
The robbers then demanded that she hand over everything she was carrying.
“I had a handbag and a bag containing a laptop and a camera with me. They then proceeded to take my watch as well,” she said.
“After they took everything I left. I just took my son and hurried as fast as I could to the nearest entrance. I didn’t even see if they were there with a vehicle and luckily I had my vehicle’s key in my pocket. ”
The victim said she doesn’t think her son really knew what was going on and that she was thankful that the robbers didn’t hurt them.
“My biggest mistake was to park far away from the other cars, because I don’t want my car scratched or damaged,” she added.
Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, warned that motorists should rather park close to an entrance and where the security guards are when they go to a mall.
“Especially women can become a target if they park in a secluded area,” he said.
