Metro reminds consumers to use water sparingly
The Ekurhuleni Metro has urged residents and businesses to utilise water sparingly. Although the Metro’s water supply network has remained stable for weeks, the demand for water is still high.
Thus the call for consumers to remain active partners and continue to preserve the precious resource.
Last week the Metro announced that no irrigation activities should take place between 8am and 4pm.
“Although the situation has improved since last month’s water shortage, we still urge consumers to abide by water conservation measures such as refraining from utilising hosepipes to water their gardens, wash their cars and paved outdoor areas, as well as filling swimming pools during the stipulated hours,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.
Residents are further encouraged to be water wise by applying the following water saving tips:
*Use a bucket and a sponge when washing the car and not a hosepipe
*Prevent children from pouring water at each other and leaving taps running
*Use `grey water’ (used water from baths and washing machines) to water your garden
*Take a five-minute shower a day, instead of a bath
*Repair leakages on your property, otherwise contact the municipal services call centre number on 086 054 3000 for leaks requiring the municipality’s attention.
