Copper-laden truck hijacked, driver and guard held captive

The security guard was robbed of his firearm, and the pair were then forced into the backseat.

A truck driver and the security guard assigned to protect him were hijacked and held captive for several hours by a gang of four men, on Monday morning.

The hijacking took place at about 3.40am, at the intersection of the R23 and R554, near Carnival City.

The truck and its copper cargo were taken.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the driver had pulled over on the side of the road to inspect the truck because its wheels were binding.

Before he could climb out of the vehicle, however, four men, two of whom were armed with guns, surrounded the vehicle.

The security guard was robbed of his firearm, and the pair were then forced into the backseat.

The truck was then driven to an unknown location, where a car was waiting.

The driver and guard were forced into the car and taken to a house on a plot.

The two were held at the house until about 10am, when the men guarding them left.

A case of truck hijacking is being investigated.
