According to the spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, Capt Joep Joubert, the doors of the business were closed at about 6.55pm.

Joubert said eight men, who were already in the shop, produced firearms and ordered the manager, staff and some customers to lie down on the floor.

The robbers demanded money and emptied a number of tills, as well as a safe in which SASSA money was kept.

“All the cash was placed into bags,” said Joubert.

The robbers instructed two managers of the store to carry the bags of cash to the emergency exit, from where they escaped with the undisclosed amount of money.

According to Joubert, a security officer witnessed two BMW vehicles speeding away and gave chase, but without success.

“The wires of the CCTV cameras inside the business were cut and some of the suspects were wearing uniforms similar to the employees of the targeted business,” said Joubert.

Brakpan police are investigating.
