Weekend crime round-up

A man was robbed of his bank card at an ATM.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – The driver of a white Toyota bakkie (model not provided) was hijacked near the intersection of Heidelberg Road and Elsburg Road at about 9am.

The driver stopped on the side of the road after his company vehicle was bumped from behind by another bakkie.

There were five occupants in this bakkie.

One of the occupants of the vehicle threatened the driver with a gun and told him to keep quiet.

The hijacker took the bakkie’s keys from the driver and forced him onto the back of their bakkie.

They bound his hands with rope and dropped him off near a factory in Robertville, near Roodepoort.

A man was robbed of his bank card at an ATM along Voortrekker Road at about 11am.

After inserting his bank card and punching in his pin number, the man noticed the ATM wasn’t working correctly.

He attempted to cancel the transaction, when his card was suddenly grabbed from the machine by a thief.

The victim went inside the bank to report his stolen card and discovered that an amount of R2 000 had been withdrawn from his account.

• Saturday

Two burglaries were reported.

A garage on a residential property along Second Road, Sallies Village, was broken into and a toolbox was stolen.

Burglars stole a projector from a business situated along Stoffberg Avenue.

A teenager was robbed of his backpack, containing a cellphone, earphones, study notes and other personal belongings, by a man armed with a knife.

The incident took place at about 11.30am in Leachville.

The youngster was walking along Dikbas Crescent en route to a friend’s house in Kinaboom Street, when a man approached him and asked for directions to Wattville, in Benoni.

The teen offered to show him the way, when the man suddenly pulled out a knife and took the youngster’s bag.

The thief was arrested on Monday after the victim spotted him walking along Heidelberg Road and alerted police.

• Sunday – No information pertaining to incidents that took place on Sunday was received.
