Poles will be replaced

"The City of Ekurhuleni has deployed a patrolling service in the area and a few arrests have been reported."

The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding the theft of street light poles along Heidelberg Road.

It was reported in last week’s edition (‘Lamp posts stripped‘) that the poles are being cut down and presumably sold for scrap, along with the cable.

The theft is extensive along the stretch of road between Carnival City and Tsakane.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe confirmed the poles will be replaced.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has deployed a patrolling service in the area and a few arrests have been reported,” he added.
