Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

• Friday – An earth moving vehicle was stolen by four robbers from a building site along Elsburg Road, in Dalpark.

A security guard on the premises was threatened at gunpoint at around 1am, and was then taken to a container where he was bound with cable ties.

The guard saw two of the men drive off in the vehicle.

* A pedestrian was robbed of his belongings along Helium Road, in Vulcania.

The victim was walking home from work at about 5.40am, when two armed men confronted him.

One of the robbers was brandishing a gun, while the other was armed with a knife.

The victim was struck with the gun and fell to the ground.

The robbers took his bag from his shoulder, searched him and fled.

Cash, personal documents and two cellphones were stolen.

* Speakers and a radio were stolen from a car parked along Germains Avenue.

* A thief made off with a handbag after a smash-and-grab incident along Voortrekker Road.

The victim was stationary at the Station Road intersection at around 1pm, when the thief broke the front passenger window of her car and grabbed the bag off the front seat.

The bag contained cash, bank cards and a cellphone.

* A company situated along Goods Road was burgled of electric tools, workshop equipment, mag wheels and tyres.

* A blue Fiat Uno was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

The car was taken between 6.30pm and 6.40pm.

• Saturday – Several pairs of shoes and a clothes iron were stolen from a home along Escombe Avenue.

* A white Ford Laser was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and Prince George Avenue.

The car was stolen between 11.25am and 1.30pm.

* A case of arson was opened after three shacks were set alight in the Magaleni informal settlement, in Brakpan North.

Police were called to the settlement, situated just off Hospital Road, at around 9pm.

• Sunday – A cellphone and an ID book were stolen from a house situated along Grey Avenue.

A car on the property was also broken into and its radio stolen.

* A gang of about eight men robbed a company along Fifth Road, in Witpoortjie.

The robbers gained entry to the premises at about 2.30am and threatened two security guards.

Truck tyres and a bicycle were stolen.

* A woman was robbed of her handbag at the corner of Kitzinger Avenue and Gordon Road.

The victim was walking to work when a man approached her at about 6.20am, saying he would like to talk to her.

The woman told him she was in a hurry, but the man kept following her.

When she took off running, the man chased after her and pushed her to the ground.

He sat on her and began tugging at her pants, trying to pull them off.

The victim managed to fight him off and the man fled with her handbag.

The bag contained a lunchbox and perfume.

* Office equipment, a couch, telephones, a microwave, a TV and a bar fridge were stolen during a robbery at a company along Jan Buis Street, in Van Eck Park.

A group of robbers held up security guards on the premises at about 5.15pm.

• Accomplice to commit an offence: 1
