Council reacts to Brakpan residents’ concerns

The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding letters received from readers.

The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding the following:

Lamp post ready to topple over (published on June 30).

Submitted by ‘Very concerned and disappointed citizen’, a portion of the letter reads: A lamp post in Anker Street, in Dalpark Extension One, is about to fall.

Should we now wait till it falls down on a person or car driving by?

According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the lamp post has been repaired.

Why no power cuts in Brakpan North? (published June 23).

The letter writer, Jacques van Schalkwyk, wanted to know why Brakpan North received ‘special treatment’ when it comes to scheduled power outages.

Gadebe explained that Brakpan has two intake substations from Eskom running independently.

“One is the Van Eck substation and the other one is in Brakpan North,” he said.

“Van Eck feeds Brakpan Central, Brenthurst, Dalpark, Geluksdal, Minnebron, Vulcania South and Vulcania,” he added.
