Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (November 7 to 8):

Cases reported:

Arrests:

• Attempted rape and assault GBH: 1

Attempted rape:

• Two good Samaritans saved a 16-year-old girl from the clutches of a would-be rapist along Main Reef Road, near The Rock Raceway, yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

The pair saw the victim, dressed in her school uniform, being followed and assaulted by the man.

They chased the man, but he fled into the surrounding area and evaded capture.

Police were called and a suspect was later arrested.

The victim was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical attention.

Armed robbery:

• A man was robbed of his car and cellphone at the corner of Kingsway Avenue and Park Street at about 9pm last night.

After parking his vehicle, a silver Mazda 6, the victim was approached by three men.

Two of the men pulled out guns and pointed them at the victim, while the third searched him and took his car keys and cellphone.

The robbers climbed into the victim’s car and drove off.

Common robbery:

• A security guard was robbed by four men during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

The guard was on duty at business premises along Uranium Road in Vulcania when he was confronted by the robbers at around 2am.

They ordered the guard to accompany them around the property.

After failing to break into a workshop, the robbers took the security guard’s cellphone and fled.

Burglary:

• Hastings Avenue (business).

The break-in took place on Monday.

Stolen: Three firearms and an Opel Vivaro (colour not provided).

The vehicle was later recovered in Daveyton, Benoni.

• First Road, in Maryvlei (business).

The workshop was burgled on Monday.

Stolen: Taps, copper pipes and tools.

• Taft Avenue.

The garage on the property was broken into on Monday.

Stolen: A trailer containing tools, an extension cord and bedding.

• Mahogany Street, in Dalpark.

The home was burgled yesterday.

Stolen: Jewellery and a TV.

• Hoy Avenue.

The break-in took place yesterday.

Stolen: Groceries and two gas guns.

• Middle Street, in Rand Collieries.

The residence was broken into yesterday

Stolen: A TV, DVD player, cellphone, bedding and clothes.
