Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two break-ins took place.

An address along Evans Street, Brenthurst, was burgled of audio visual equipment, while cash was stolen from a residence in Queen Street.

• Saturday – Three burglaries occurred.

Homes along Merriman Street in Brenthurst, Lawrence Street in Dalpark and Hewitt Street in Brakpan North were targeted.

A gas bottle, electric tools, aluminium windows, a TV, laptop and other items were stolen.

* A couple arriving at Helderwyk Estate, near Carnival City,  was robbed of their jewellery at gunpoint.

Two robbers travelling in a Mercedes Benz confronted the pair at around 5.50pm.

They fled with with two wristwatches, a wedding ring and bracelet.

• Sunday – A woman was robbed of her bag along Heidelberg Road near Leachville.

The victim was waiting for a taxi at 5.30am when a man grabbed her and forced her into the veld.

He told her not to scream and took her bag, which contained her work uniform, an electric kettle and some cash.

Other cases:

• Thursday – Cash, a TV and an ID book were stolen during a break-in at an address along Station Road.

* A man was robbed of his necklace along Voortrekker Road.

The incident took place at about 4pm when a thief snatched the jewellery from the victim’s neck and ran off with an accomplice.

* A car parked along Bakkes Street in Brenthurst was stripped of its mag wheels.

* Basin taps were stolen from a property in Porter Avenue.

Weekend arrests

The following arrests were made in Brakpan over the weekend:

• Shoplifting: 2
• Assault GBH: 1
• Speeding: 4
• Drunk driving: 3
• Theft: 5
