Maxine is eager to make a difference

Maxine is eager to make a difference in her community with the goal of creating awareness about social responsibility, as well as developing social entrepreneurship skills.

A young aspiring beauty queen, Maxine Ellan (16) from Curro Helderwyk School, was recently selected as a top 20 finalist for Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur SA (Sesa).

Miss Teen Sesa is not only a beauty pageant, but is also an opportunity to create a platform to raise awareness about social issues.

Stop Women and Child Abuse (Swaca) is a Miss Teen Sesa initiative and the finalists will raise funds with the goal of spreading awareness around the negative impact of women and child abuse in South Africa.

The brunette is focused and determined to gain the confidence and knowledge to be the best she can be while making a positive impact.

“I entered this competition because if I win I can use the crown as a platform to start my own non-profit organisation and make a difference first-hand,” Maxine said.

“I would like to create an establishment for individuals in poverty who would like to develop skills to create a living for themselves or help others.”

This is Maxine’s first pageant and although the other finalists might have experience, she is hopeful she will take the crown home.

Those who would like to support Maxine on her journey can purchase a Swaca wristband.
