Youngest kennel manager now at Brakpan SPCA
The Brakpan SPCA has a fresh new face at the helm.
At just 23, Shiven Bodasing is one of the youngest SPCA kennel managers in the country, but don’t let his age fool you.
While he is passionate about animals, the Alberton resident is even more fanatical about serving up justice on their behalf.
“I cannot tolerate unlawfulness and will deal with offenders harshly,” he said.
As an inspector at the Benoni SPCA, Shiven was recently behind the successful conviction of a man involved in dog fighting.
In December, last year, he received a tip-off about a dog fighting incident in Nigel and responded because the area doesn’t have a qualified SPCA inspector.

After inspecting the premises, he arrested a suspect and took him to the police station.
The man later pleaded guilty to a charge of animal cruelty and received an 18-month correctional supervision sentence.
Shiven’s career in animal welfare started almost two years ago when he joined the Benoni SPCA as a cadet inspector.
After completing an inspector training course he obtained his inspector qualification.
While the course can take up to two years to complete, Shiven mastered it in only nine months and by October last year, he was a qualified inspector.
He has joined the local society in the hope of making a difference.
“This SPCA needs upliftment and we need to fight cruelty in this area,” he said.
His immediate plans for the society include getting the inspectorate up and running and restoring the Brakpan community’s faith in the organisation.
