Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Three burglaries took place.

The break-ins occurred at homes along Chestnut Street in Dalpark Extension Six and Stoffberg Avenue, and at a business along Prince George Avenue.

Cash, jewellery, a TV, cellphones and other valuables were stolen.

• Saturday – A Dalpark family was robbed in their Rooihout Street home during the early hours of the morning by two men.

The balaclava-clad robbers broke into the house at about 3.45am and rounded up the sleeping family members.

One robber was armed with a pistol and the other had a knife.

Family members were taken to a bedroom where they were gagged with belts and their heads covered.

The robbers ransacked the house and the victims heard them talking over a two-way radio.

After the robbers left at around 5am, the family members untied themselves and found the house had been robbed of cash, jewellery, cellphones, a gaming console, a laptop, clothes, shoes and other household items.

• Sunday – The driver of a silver Ford Fiesta was robbed of his vehicle along Van Der Walt Street in Dalview when he stopped to withdraw money at around 3am.

He left his vehicle idling and was at the ATM when he noticed a black Volkswagen Polo pull up behind his car.

Three men alighted the Polo and approached him.

One of the men was armed with a gun and the victim was instructed to lie down.

He was pistol-whipped and robbed of his cellphone and wallet, containing his bank cards.

His car was taken, along with a laptop inside it.

* Four men robbed a clothing store in Mall@Carnival of cash and cellphones.

The incident took place around 10.30am and at least one of the robbers was armed with a gun.

Staff members were taken to the storeroom where they were bound with cable ties.

The robbers fled in a silver Audi.
