How to report complaints about the EMPD

There are four ways in which residents can report complaints.

Members of the community who wish to lodge a complaint about the EMPD or the conduct of metro police officers are at liberty to do so.

There are four ways in which residents can report complaints:

• Call the City of Ekurhuleni’s Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 102 201.

• Dial 112 from your cellphone and request the SAPS Anti-Corruption Unit. You can also request this unit by calling 10111.

• During weekdays between 8am and 3.30pm, visit your nearest EMPD precinct and request to speak to a precinct commander or deputy, or a senior officer in charge.

• Visit the EMPD’s head office at the corner of Long Street and Margaret Avenue in Kempton Park and request the assistance of the Internal Affairs/Integrity and Standards Unit.

The complainant should be prepared to give/write a statement, indicating what transpired.

The Internal Affairs Team will investigate the matter and will obtain statements from the officer/s accused of wrongdoing.

The date will be set for a hearing and the presiding officer will give a verdict.
