Weekend crime round-up

Three robbers made off with cash, cigarettes, chocolates and other items after robbing a Voortrekker Road petrol station.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Cash and two cellphones were stolen from a vehicle parked at Mall@Carnival.

* A female motorist was robbed of her handbag while stationary at a traffic light along Voortrekker Road.

The smash-and-grab took place at about 4.45pm, when the front passenger window was smashed by a lone thief.

The bag contained a set of keys and other items.

* A home in Gert Bezuidenhout Avenue in Minnebron was burgled of TVs, kitchen appliances and other valuables.

* Three women and a man robbed a female pedestrian of her laptop and cellphone along Pienaar Street in Brenthurst.

The incident took place around 1.30pm.

After pushing the victim to the ground and taking her belongings, the perpetrators fled in a white truck.

* A Victoria Avenue business owner was robbed by three men at around 6pm.

The robbers, one of whom was armed with a sharp object, approached the man as he was closing his business and demanded cash.

After telling the robbers he didn’t have any money, the robbers insisted he open his business premises.

He told them he was unable to do so as the alarm had already been activated.

They grabbed the victim’s cellphone and panic button, and made their getaway in a red Hyundai Elantra.

• Saturday – A retailer along Station Road was robbed by two men.

The robbers entered the store at 11.35am and threatened a cashier at gunpoint.

After failing to open the tills and the safe in the office, the men fled with two cellphones, one of which belonged to a staff member.

A case of business robbery is under investigation.

* A couple was robbed of their jewellery at around 3pm in the parking lot of KwaThema Square in 12th Road, Maryvlei.

A man approached the couple as they returned to their car and showed them a gun concealed in his jacket.

He demanded their wedding rings and wristwatches.

The stolen jewellery is valued at R18 000.

• Sunday – Three robbers made off with cash, cigarettes, chocolates and other items after robbing a Voortrekker Road petrol station.

The robbers, one of whom was armed with a firearm, held up two staff members and a customer at 4.30am.

* A woman was robbed of her jewellery while shopping at Mall@Carnival.

The victim was approached by two women at 4.30pm who demanded her valuables.

The robbers did not appear to be armed, but the woman feared for her safety and handed over her wristwatch, necklace and ring.

* A Voortrekker Road supermarket was robbed by four men at 4.50pm.

Staff members were threatened with a knife and forced into the kitchen on the premises, where their hands were bound with cable ties.

The robbers fled with R20 000 in cash, four cellphones belonging to staff members, a computer tower, a grinder, a drill and a polishing machine.
