Weekend crime round-up

A Dalview family was robbed in their Kent Road home by three men.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Cigarettes valued at R75 000 were stolen during a break-in at a store at the Sherwood Shopping Centre in Brakpan North.
• Saturday – A chainsaw and a bicycle were stolen from an address along Tambotie Street in Dalpark.

* A home in Palm Crescent, Sonneveld, was burgled of various household items, including a TV, a gaming console, jewellery, clothing and cellphones.
• Sunday – The driver of a bakkie (make and model not provided) was hijacked along Second Road in Maryvlei.
The driver, who was accompanied by another man, had arranged to meet a woman for whom they were going to move some goods.
When they arrived at the agreed meeting point just before 2pm, the driver phoned the woman who told him a man would meet him and direct him to the address from where the goods must be collected.
Shortly afterwards, a man arrived and claimed he had been sent by the woman.
The man climbed onto the back of the bakkie and the driver set off.
At the corner of 13th Road, the man instructed the driver to stop in order to pick up two men who were waiting on the side of the road.
The driver pulled over and they waited for the men to climb onto the back of the bakkie.
One of the men, however, showed the driver a gun concealed in the waistband of his pants and removed the keys from the bakkie’s ignition.
He instructed the driver and his passenger to get out of the bakkie.
They were told to walk into the veld and not look back.
The men then drove off in the bakkie.

* Two robbers made off with R2 000 in cash and a cellphone after robbing a shop along Scott Crescent in Brenthurst.
The incident took place at 5.50pm.
One of the robbers held the shop’s owner at gunpoint while the other demanded his cellphone and emptied the cash register.
The robbers were travelling in a white Volkswagen Polo.

* A store in the Mall@Carnival was robbed of perfume and other goods by two men.
A security guard on duty was confronted by a man wearing a black mask at 7.41pm who threatened him with a gun.
The gunman demanded the guard’s hand radio and forced him to lie down.
The guard was told if he lifted his head, he would be shot.
The robber was joined by an accomplice and both men assaulted the guard.
The guard heard glass breaking as the men broke into one of the shops.

* A Dalview family was robbed in their Kent Road home by three men.
The husband was watching TV in the lounge around 9.15pm when the robbers casually walked into the room, holding his wife at gunpoint.
The couple was forced to lie on the floor while their children were rounded up and brought to them.
The children were also threatened with a gun and told to lie down.
The robbers ransacked the house taking cellphones, laptops, a handbag, jewellery and cash.
