DA calls for more visible policing to combat crime wave in Dalpark
Dalpark residents can add their signature to a petition calling for more police visibility and patrols.
The DA in Ekurhuleni welcomes anti-crime initiatives in Dalpark in light of the recent crime wave.
One such initiative was the formation of the Dalpark Extension Nine and 11 patrol group.
It was reported in last week’s edition of the Herald, ‘Crime-fighting partnerships celebrated’, how the group recently celebrated the one-month anniversary of its inception.
The group has achieved great success in its short existence and has joined hands with the Dalpark Homeowners’ Association and AfriForum Brakpan.
“In the beginning of the year, there has been a break-in on Byron Street where a mother and daughter were tied up while electronics and jewellery were stolen,” said Simangele Sabe, the DA councillor for Ward 31 in Brakpan.
“A few days later, there was an attempted break-in at a house on Shakespeare Street. The community has also witnessed an increase in drug use, specifically around the section of Elsburg Road that runs parallel to Carnival City.”
Sabe stated the increase in crime is a blight on society and a threat to residents’ safety and security.
“As such, community interventions such as the stakeholder meeting and a braai hosted by community members are welcomed by the DA,” she said.
“The braai provided an opportunity for the community to show their gratitude to the neighbourhood patrollers, as well as investigate policing strategies to mitigate crime in the community.
“The DA welcomes these engagements and encourages further multi-stakeholder initiatives to create more sustainable safety solutions for our communities.
“The DA has since launched a petition calling for greater police visibility in the area, as well as for an increase in the frequency of patrols from the neighbourhood watch and the CPF.”
Residents are encouraged to sign the petition at www.petitions.net (Community of Ward 31 calls for an increase in visible policing following increase in crime).
