Mgongo community encouraged to join CPF

Police appealed to residents of the settlement to join the fight against crime.

Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi visited the Mgongo informal settlement (Location Road) on Sunday afternoon to engage with the settlement’s CPF patrollers and to urge more residents to join the forum.

She was accompanied by Brakpan CPF chairperson Tinus Jordaan and secretary Lisa Jordaan, who spoke to the community about the role and functions of the CPF.

Buthelezi explained the forum helps to alleviate lawlessness in the community and creates a healthy relationship between the community and police.

The presence of patrollers in the area can also help eliminate incidents of mob justice and unlawful protests.

The meeting provided an opportunity for patrollers to raise community concerns with the police, one of which is illegal shebeens.

Lastly, residents were reminded to work with the SAPS and not against them.

“The patrollers were very happy and praised the gathering. Forms to join the CPF were handed out to two new patrollers,” said Buthelezi.

Similar engagements will be held throughout the town to boost crime prevention efforts.
