Wrestling academy opens in Brakpan

The academy caters to a wide range of enthusiasts.

Professional wrestling veterans have every intention to bring the passion for the sport to fans. Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) recently opened an academy in Brakpan.

“We are promising to bring the thrilling world of professional wrestling closer to enthusiasts and aspiring wrestlers. The academy offers weekly classes designed to teach the art, athleticism, and showmanship that make pro wrestling so captivating,” said HWA spokesperson Donovan Black.

The academy is led by 12-time amateur Springbok wrestler and pro wrestling superstar Steve Eden.

“The association aims to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience for individuals of all ages and skill levels. From beginners with no prior experience to seasoned athletes looking to fine-tune their skills, the academy caters to a wide range of enthusiasts,” said Black.

“The academy’s class offerings include training sessions in various aspects of professional wrestling. From basic grappling techniques and mat work to high-flying aerial manoeuvres and promo skills, students will have the opportunity to learn from experienced trainers and hone their abilities in a safe and supportive environment.”

Eden, who is affectionately known as ‘The Flying Springbok’, has a team of wrestlers who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the academy. With a successful career spanning decades, he is said to be excited to pass on his expertise to the next generation of wrestling stars.

“In addition to the in-ring training, the academy also offers classes in physical fitness and conditioning, ensuring that students are prepared to meet the demanding physical requirements of professional wrestling.

“Furthermore, the academy emphasises the importance of safety and injury prevention, teaching proper techniques and protocols to protect wrestlers’ well-being,” said Black.

HWA’s academy meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Brakpan Sports Centre in Elliot Street. Classes starts at 18:30.
