Taded takes on hip hop world

Mpho Ncholo writes music that inspires and teaches life lessons.

Mpho Ncholo, stage name ‘Taded’, is working on new music he hopes will bring a fresh sound to the world.

The 23-year-old Dalpark resident and marketing director at Heidelberg Radio Station started rapping and singing at 15 but only seriously considered music as a career at 19.

He is mostly self-taught, but his producer, Tctee, and others guided him on this journey. A favourite song of his is an unreleased one called Blue.

His favourite released song is MOM. He made it for his mom, who always ensured Taded got the best. His dream is to see his mother never have to worry about anything, so he intends to work hard.

“As a child, I always loved music but never knew what I wanted to be when grown up. There was a time I wanted to be a chef because society made me feel like it was all I could be as an overweight child, but by God’s grace, I pursued this instead. It’s the only place I feel like I belong,” Taded explained.

Taded’s cousin, Gauta Ncholo, mother Nthabiseng, sister Sipati, and brothers, Lebohang and Tiisetso, supported him, but his uncle, Khotso Ncholo, was his mainstay.

“At first, I was scared to tell him I wanted to pursue being an artist, but to my surprise, he was genuinely interested in the path I took,” he said.

If Taded could speak to the world, he would tell them: “I’m about to shake the world. Because of prayer, hard work and a willingness to learn, I’ll go down in the history books.”

He described his music as inspirational and said it provided life lessons. A common theme is the power of love, good and bad.

An artist Taded wanted to work with was AKA, the SA rapper murdered in February. AKA greatly inspired Taded. He also dreams of working with Drake, Chris Brown and Rema.

Besides his music, the most important thing to him is creating a life where he can invest in his family’s dreams and ensure everyone around him is financially supported. He also believes spreading love is crucial.

Taded’s next single, Na You, features Hpee, a Nigerian artist, and he hopes the song will make waves in SA because it touches on many themes and cultures.
