Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from February 16 to 18.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – Two TVs, a gaming console and speakers were stolen during a break-in at an address along Civin Road in Sonneveld.
• The driver of a truck transporting paraffin was hijacked near Geluksdal Road along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) at around 22:00.
The driver pulled over after two motorists in separate vehicles flashed their car lights at him and indicated there was a problem with the truck’s tyres.
As soon as he got out of the truck, the driver was confronted by a man armed with a rifle.
The gunman was joined by an accomplice and the driver’s face was covered and he was forced into another vehicle.
He was driven to a house where he was kept overnight.
The driver was released in Sundra the following morning.
Saturday – A home in Escombe Avenue was burgled of a TV, a laptop, jewellery and other valuables.
• A pedestrian was robbed at gunpoint along Blyde Avenue in Leachville at about 18:00.
The victim was confronted by two men who demanded his cellphone.
One of the robbers pointed a firearm at the victim.
After handing over the device to the pair, they ran to a nearby silver/grey Volkswagen Polo and sped off.
Sunday – A Toyota Etios was stolen from the corner of Bedford Street and Hastings Avenue.
• A man was arrested after a house in 16th Street, Witpoort Estates, was broken into.
The intruder was found inside the home by security personnel who responded after the alarm was triggered.
The kitchen door and a window had been forced open.
Nothing was stolen from the home.
• A woman was raped by a taxi driver in Anzac at around 18:30.
The victim found herself alone with the driver after he dropped off the only other passenger travelling with her.
He then struck up a conversation with her and asked if he could pay her for sex. She refused and demanded to be let out of the taxi near the traffic circle in Anzac.
The man drove to Victoria Falls Road where he pulled off the road and drove to a secluded location.
After stopping, he pulled out a gun and got out of the taxi. He opened the passenger door where the victim was sitting and got inside.
He locked the taxi and threatened the victim with the gun. After raping her, he dropped her off near her intended destination and drove away.
