Adopt-a-Cop officer and others attend valedictory ceremony at Brakpan High School
The police members and CPF patrollers monitored the farewell to ensure the excitement did not lead to unlawful behaviour.
Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi, supported by Sector 2 manager Constable Zunaid Rustoff and CPF patrollers, attended Brakpan High School’s Valedictory Ceremony on October 17.
They attended this as part of their duties under the designated Adopt-a-Cop programme. In this programme, a police officer can serve various roles at a school, such as educating, mentoring, community liaising, and problem-solving.
Adopt-a-Cop is responsible for creating awareness and sensitising learners on drugs, bullying, dangerous weapons and gangsterism, among others.
Buthelezi attended the ceremony as part of her primary role of supporting and preventing crime, as learners sometimes get too excited. Instead of going home after the ceremony, they gather at parks and engage in unlawful behaviour.

This was the final farewell of the Grade 12 classmates before pursuing individual paths after the exams. The Valedictorians received trophies, medals and certificates.
Their fellow students from Grade 11 honoured the matrics with a guard of honour, as they finally made their way out of the school gates.
Learners and teachers bade each other farewell, and school shirts were signed with short messages of remembrance.
School principal Lucky Nkopane thanked the law enforcers for their support, as learners dispersed without reported incidents after the ceremony.
