The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A black Toyota Corolla was stolen from the corner of Victoria Avenue and High Street.
• A car radio valued at over R3 000 was stolen from a vehicle parked in the Mkhancwa informal settlement in Maryvlei.
The vehicle’s window was broken to gain access.
• A couple was robbed by a lone thief armed with a spade in Minnebron.
The husband and wife were walking along Lower Road when, at around 12:20, the man confronted them, hitting the spade on the road.
He threatened the couple and demanded their belongings.
The thief fled with a cellphone and jewellery with a combined value of about R49 000.
Saturday – Liquor valued at thousands of rand was stolen during an armed robbery at a Prince George Avenue bottle store.
Three men entered the shop at around 09:45 and pretended to be customers.
One of the men approached the shop owner behind the counter and pointed a gun at him.
The gunman whispered to the owner, “This is a robbery.”
He then came around the counter and demanded money, and the owner was forced to empty the till.
The owner and an employee were then taken to the storage room, where the robbers helped themselves to expensive bottles of alcohol.
The pair were also robbed of their cellphones.
Customers entering the shop, unaware of the robbery in progress, were robbed of their cellphones.
• A blue Nissan 1400 was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and Cavendish Street.
• A silver-coloured Toyota Corolla was stolen from an address along Hendrik Potgieter Road in Dalview.
• A residence along Escombe Avenue was broken into, and a microwave, a bar fridge, cutlery and taps were stolen.
The theft of the taps caused water damage.
Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
