Brakpan SPCA to oversee Qurbani, office closed tomorrow

The local society will monitor local Qurbani sites for humane practices this weekend.

Each year, SPCA inspectors and staff attend various sites to observe Qurbani. In Arabic, Qurbani translates to sacrifice. It refers to the act of sacrificing an animal, typically during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.

As with many SPCAs across the country, the Brakpan SPCA will be attending multiple sites to ensure that all practices are carried out with compassion and without cruelty.

In preparation, staff have already been conducting pre-inspections at various locations to help ensure everything is in place for a smooth and humane Qurbani.

Due to Qurbani falling over a weekend, the Brakpan SPCA office will be closed tomorrow (Saturday) so that pound and inspection staff can dedicate their full attention to animals in their care and to field duties.

The SPCA will, however, still assist with stray or surrendered animals, and their emergency line remains available on 083 696 9052.

The society thanks the community for their understanding and support.

This is an intensive time for the team, and they are committed to upholding animal welfare across the region, and in support of neighbouring SPCAs if needed.
