Prayer and purpose: SAPS and community seek divine guidance at prayer event
Brigadier Johanna Ngoma and local SAPS officers attended the spiritually charged gathering, featuring sermons, worship and community prayer.
The community gathered at the sportsgrounds of Hoërskool Stoffberg on June 28 for a powerful day of fasting, prayer and unity under the theme ‘I Speak Jesus’.
Brakpan SAPS Sector 2 manager Constable Zunaid Rustoff and Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi attended the event together with members of the CPF and Crime Prevention Wardens.
Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma was also present.
The ceremony was attended by community members and different faith-based organisations, and was steered by event organiser pastor Johan Terblanche.
There were no food stalls, and attendees only brought water-filled bottles as fasting was encouraged along with prayer.
Pastors representing different faith-based organisations from Brakpan and surrounding areas delivered sermons based on different themes.

Warrant Officer Eddie Botes, a pastor at the CFC Brakpan Church, preached about Holy Spirit guidance, and the SAPS EHW chaplain Reverand Godfrey Booysen’s theme was thanksgiving.
Pastors from different churches, including Breakthrough Church, Elroi Church, Tsidkenu Tabernacle, Messiah Boat Ministries, CFC Church Katlehong, spoke on various spiritual themes such as repentance and rededication, surrendering, families, marriages and children, salvation of souls, a Godly government, and love and peace.
Pastor Mpumi Ntuli prayed for the SAPS and all law enforcement agencies quoting from 2 Timothy 2:1–2, which encourages believers to be strong in the grace found in Jesus Christ and to entrust the teachings of God to faithful men who can teach others.
The script emphasises spiritual strength and the importance of discipleship. Attendees were given a chance to special individual prayer by the pastors and there was also a box in which to put prayer requests.
Worship songs were played by a live band.
The event was closed with a prayer and spiritual message by Terblanche and an energetic worship song by pastor Mxolisi Motha.
