Brakpan Central Local Football Association ends season on high note

The season had great support and a positive effect on the community.

The Brakpan Central Local Football Association (BCLFA) closed their six-month league season on a high note, awarding massive cash prizes to the top three teams.

The Stream B senior soccer league ran from late 2024 to July 2025, with Young Stars FC finishing third, Real Touch taking second, and Leachville Shooters claiming the coveted top spot.

Cash prizes were awarded as follows: R10 000 for first place, R6 000 for second, and R4 000 for third.

“As the final whistle blew at the Harveytile Stadium (near Harvey Roofing Products) and Brakpan Stadium (Charl Baard Stadium), it marked the conclusion of the senior soccer league season,” said coach Stephen Jindu, public relations manager for the Brakpan Sports Association, under which the BCLFA operates.

“Spanning over six months, this league brought together nine teams from various neighbourhoods, each with a burning desire to lift the championship trophy.

“Young Stars were eager to become champions for the first time, Anzac Dolphins Academy aimed to claim a second title, and Real Touch were hoping to be the silent assassins,” he said.

Amabhenjamini FC, a newcomer, arrived hungry to make a name for themselves — but Leachville Shooters had other plans.

Among the many memorable matches, the most talked-about were between underdogs Alliance Young Tigers FD and pre-season favourites Leachville Shooters. Alliance shocked fans by holding Shooters to a draw in both legs of the season, making them the only team unbeaten by the eventual champions.

Leachville Shooters, who ended fourth in the previous season, began this campaign strong and never looked back.

“With win after win, goal after goal, Leachville became the first team to win the league without a single loss,” said Jindu.

They secured 13 wins and three draws, including a seven-match winning streak that cemented their place at the top. They finished with 42 points, seven clear of Real Touch in second place with 35.

“The impact of this league has been far-reaching. For the players, it was a chance to stay fit, improve their skills, and build lasting friendships. Many junior players found that the league gave them purpose and a reason to stay active,” said Jindu.

“On the community front, the league has been a huge success. It brought families and friends together, with large crowds attending the matches every weekend. It also promoted a healthy lifestyle, inspiring more people in the community to take up soccer,” he continued.

“This senior soccer league season has been a resounding success. It showcased the passion and skill of senior players and united the community in support of local sports.

“As we look ahead to the next season, we can expect more excitement, more drama, and more unforgettable moments on the soccer field.

“Congratulations to Leachville Shooters, led by Coach Bheki Gamede, as they continue their journey to the playoffs to represent Brakpan. Let us go in numbers to support them,” Jindu concluded.
