Ghost Riders president and members fix potholes in Dalpark 1
The potholes were reported to the City of Ekurhuleni months ago but remain unrepaired.
Ghost Riders president Albert van Vuuren took matters into his own hands after waiting months for the City of Ekurhuleni to repair potholes in his suburb.
Van Vuuren reported the potholes in May. More recently, he came across a team repairing potholes elsewhere and asked if they would be attending to those in Dalpark Ext 1. They told him it was not on their schedule.
He believes the team were contractors working on behalf of the city. According to Van Vuuren, he offered to buy leftover tar from them, but they said they were not permitted to sell or give away the excess and were required to discard it.
Out of frustration, Van Vuuren and fellow members of the Ghost Riders bikers’ club pooled resources to buy materials and fix the potholes themselves.
The group repaired potholes on Dabchick, Skamel, and Anker streets, as well as at the corner of Bodek and Bobstay streets.
A request for comment was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni regarding the delay in repairs and whether there is a backlog. No response had been received by the time of publication.
