Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Guards bound and robbed

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from August 15 to 17:

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan SAPS over the past weekend:

Friday – A home along Witpoortjie Road in Denneoord was broken into, but nothing was stolen. It was discovered that an upstairs window had been broken. Pieces of glass were found in the house.

• Two security guards on duty at a business along Hastings Avenue in Dalview were overpowered during a robbery at the premises at around 20:00.

One of the guards was returning the guardroom after conducting a patrol when he was confronted by a man armed with a gun.

The gunman told him not to make any noise. He then removed a shoelace from the guard’s shoe and tied his hands.
The man led the guard to the guardroom, where two other intruders had subdued the guard’s colleague. This guard’s hands were also tied.

The robbers then searched the premises, and returned to the guardroom where they instructed the guards to help them.

They were threatened that they would be shot if they did not comply. Two quad bikes, a white Hino truck, and the guards’ cellphones were stolen.

Saturday – A white Mahindra Bolero was stolen from an address along Hosking Street in Brenthurst.
The vehicle was recovered in Vosloorus.

• Tools and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a business along Voortrekker Road. Entry was gained by forcing open burglar bars on a window.

Sunday – No priority crimes were reported at the time of publication.
