Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Armed robbers tie up security guard, steal electronics from Brenthurst business

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from August 29 to 31.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – Tools were stolen from a residence along Voortrekker Road.

Saturday – A laptop was stolen during a burglary at an address along Nederberg Street in Sonneveld Estate.

• An orange Kawasaki motorbike was stolen from an address in Devon Street, Dalview.

• A security guard on duty at a business along Muriel Brand Street in Brenthurst was threatened at gunpoint by three intruders.

The guard was patrolling the premises when he spotted the trio hiding behind a fence at around 01:00. One of them pointed a gun at the guard and told him to co-operate.

The guard’s hands were tied and he was searched and robbed of his cellphone. He was then taken to a secluded area where the gunman kept a watch over him, while his accomplices left.

They returned shortly afterwards carrying black bags, and the trio fled. The guard sought help from a man who stays on the premises, who untied him.

A search of the property revealed the robbers had gained access into a building and had stolen laptops. They also gained entry to a container on the property from where they stole an inverter.

Sunday – A home along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst was burgled of a TV.

• A swimming pool pump, a car battery and other valuables were stolen from a residence in Hewit Street, Brakpan North.
