SARS urges taxpayers to pay dues early to avoid penalties

Taxpayers are encouraged to settle their obligations promptly through secure digital platforms to prevent unnecessary delays, interest and fines.

Taxpayers across South Africa are being urged to make their payments to SARS as soon as possible to avoid penalties, interest, or delays in processing.

“All taxpayers who make payments through platforms such as eFiling, EFT, or at banks can be confident that these systems are robust, secure, and safe,” a SARS statement read.

The agency confirmed that its digital platforms meet internationally recognised standards and are user-friendly, enabling taxpayers to transact efficiently and comply with their legal obligations.

SARS also cautioned users to remain vigilant and keep personal information confidential when using online services.

“Credentials on all financial platforms are continuously at risk. There have been numerous attempts by scammers to defraud taxpayers. SARS will never ask users to click on links to engage with the agency.

“All eFiling users must protect their login details and use only registered tax practitioners,” the statement added.

September marks the halfway point of the financial year and SARS thanked taxpayers who continue to contribute diligently to the fiscus.
