Motorist falls victim to roadside hijacking trick

A motorist pulled over to inspect his vehicle after a passing driver signalled a possible fault.

The driver of a white Mahindra was hijacked and robbed on October 7 after being deceived into stopping his vehicle..

Police information reveals the driver was travelling along Heidelberg Road (R23) towards Brakpan at around 09:10 when a white Nissan Sentra passed him.

The driver of the Sentra pointed towards the back of his vehicle, indicating there might be a problem. Concerned it might be a flat tyre, the victim pulled over to check his vehicle.

While inspecting for any issues, a grey Kia stopped next to him. Three men exited the vehicle, with one pointing a firearm at the victim.

The men grabbed the victim by his belt and told him not to interfere in what they were doing. He was then forced into the Kia, where he was searched and robbed of R350 in cash and his cellphone valued at R4 500.

The hijackers then drove off with the victim in the car. During the drive, they told him they were only using his bakkie to transport copper and that they would return it later.

The victim was later dropped off at an undisclosed location. Brakpan police are investigating a case of hijacking.
